New QEII Hospital

The £30 million New QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City opened to patients in 2015.

The New QEII Hospital is a modern, welcoming and sustainable place for local people to access the hospital services that they use most often. East and North Hertfordshire CCG, the local GP-led NHS organisation, has planned the hospital and the health care it will provide.

Our Facilities

The new hospital has:

A 24/7 urgent care centre.

General outpatient services.

A purpose-built area for children’s outpatient services.

Diagnostic tests (MRI, CT scans and X-rays).

Day treatments and procedures that don’t need an overnight stay in hospital.

GP out of hours services.

Therapy services, such as physiotherapy and other rehabilitation treatments.

Endoscopy and other procedures.

A breast unit.

Ante-natal care.

Routine blood treatments, such as warfarin.


Features of the new QEII:

Easy to find your way around – Clinic space has been designed to group services which work closely together. Each clinic zone is colour coded so that it’s easy to see where you are.

Light and airy – The hospital has natural ventilation, with large opening windows and ventilation panels wherever possible.

Welcoming and comfortable – Clinic waiting spaces have been designed to be comfortable and there is plenty of seating for patients and those accompanying them to appointments.

Environmentally sustainable – The New QEII Hospital has been designed to be sustainable and environmentally friendly.

A space for the community – Alongside the healthcare clinics there is space on the ground floor for community use.
